Weekly Media Release August 01-07, 2016 Weekly Media Release Aug 1-7, 2016

From the 01 August, 2016 to the 07 August, 2016  the Cobourg Police Service responded to 201 occurrences including: 3 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 3 Mental Health Calls, 9 Alarm Calls, 4 Domestic Dispute, 5 Noise Complaint calls, 5 Theft calls, 6 Animal Complaint calls and 12 Suspicious Person calls.

Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:

August 1, 2016

Police responded to a call for a stolen vehicle from a private residence in the Town of Cobourg. The vehicle was recovered shortly after it was taken and was returned to the victim without incident.

Police were called to Victoria Park in regards to a domestic dispute between a man and a woman.  Police attended and determined that the dispute was verbal in nature; no charges were laid in this matter.

Police were called to a business in the area of William Street in regards to two males engaged in a heated verbal argument.  1 male was trespassed from the business.

Police received a report of a bicycle stolen from the downtown area. The victim reports his 20 speed Janis touring bike was stolen from in front of Victoria Hall during the sidewalk sale. There are no suspects in this matter.

August 02, 2016

Police were called to a private residence in regards to an ongoing harassment complaint. As a result of an investigation, an adult female was charged with Criminal Harassment, Uttering Threats and Breach of Recognizance x 2.

Police were called to the downtown area for an intoxicated male. Police located the male who was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. The male was taken into custody and held until sober.

Police were called to attend a private residence for a family dispute. Upon arrival, Police determined that the dispute was verbal in nature.

Police were called to a business in regards to a male panhandling. Upon arrival on scene, Police located a male, cautioned him and sent him on his way.

August 03, 2016

Police were called to a private residence in regards to a complaint of harassing communications. Upon further investigation, 1 male is being charged in this matter.

Police were called to a business in the downtown area in regards to an intoxicated male harassing patrons. Upon arrival on scene, Police located a male who had been drinking. The male was cautioned and sent on his way.

Police were called to the area of Victoria Beach for several people drinking on the West end of the Beach.  Police charged several people in this matter with having Open Liquor.

Police received a complaint of an intoxicated male harassing people in the downtown area. Upon arrival on scene, Police located the intoxicated male and arrested him for being intoxicated in a public place.  He was held in custody until sober.

Police received a complaint from a local business in regards to a dog being locked in a vehicle without the windows being down.  Police attended the business and the vehicle had left prior to Police arrival.

August 4, 2016

Police were called to a business in regards to a theft of a vacuum.  The suspects had fled prior to Police arrival.  The investigation is ongoing.

Police were called to the mall in regards to an animal complaint. Police cautioned 1 person for leaving their dog in a hot car for an extended period of time.

Police were called to investigate a complaint of a family dispute in the downtown area between a father and his son.  The father was spoken to by Police about his behaviour.

Police received a complaint of a suspicious person in the downtown area going through unlocked vehicles. The male suspect had fled the area prior to Police arrival. The public is reminded to lock their vehicles at all times.

August 05, 2016

Police were called to the downtown area for a possible intoxicated male sleeping under a tree.  Upon arrival on scene, Police spoke to the male who was found not to be intoxicated.

Police were called to the area of Brook Rd North in regards to an ongoing disturbance. Upon arrival on scene, Police located a highly intoxicated male with an open bottle of beer. The male was arrested and held in custody until he was sober.

Police were called to the East end of Cobourg in regards to a report of a domestic dispute in progress. Upon further investigation, it was found that the complaint was unfounded

Police were called to the downtown area for a possible intoxicated male banging on windows. The suspect had fled prior to Police arrival.

August 06, 2016

Police were called to a residence in the downtown area in the early morning hours in regards to a noise complaint. 1 person was cautioned in regards to this matter.

Police were in attendance in the area of Victoria Beach in regards to liquor enforcement. While on scene, Police arrested a male for breaching his recognizance conditions. The male was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Police were in attendance on the Cobourg Pier in regards to liquor enforcement and bylaw infractions. Police spoke to a male about contravening a bylaw and the male lied to Police about his identity. The male was arrested for Obstruct Police and released with a court date.

August 07, 2016

Police were on general patrol in the downtown area when an intoxicated male jumped out in front of their cruiser.  The male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. He was held until in custody until he was sober.

Police were called to a private residence in regards to a male alleging that he had been threatened by two people over the last week.  The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
