The Cobourg Police Service is dedicated to being an adaptive and responsive partner with the community in addressing concerns that make our community roadways as safe as possible through enforcement and educational opportunities.

As part of this ongoing effort, Cobourg Police officers have been focusing patrol and enforcement activities in the area of the George St and James St. W. intersection to address public complaints and concerns about stop sign and speed violations.

From February 25th to April 01st, officers positioned themselves in the area of this intersection to monitor and address Highway Traffic Act violations.  Officers were dedicated to this area 46 times over the 35 day time period.  As a result, eight (8) cautions were issued and eleven (11) charges were laid.

Traffic safety was identified in our Business Plan preparation as the most important concern to citizens in Cobourg.  Drivers, do your part to increase road safety by keeping your eyes on the road, obeying speed limits and other rules of the road.  Pedestrians, look several times to make sure it’s safe before stepping into the travelled portion of any road as a pedestrian. See and be seen.

Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility, whether you are a pedestrian, cyclist or motor vehicle operator.
