Just before 1:00 pm on July 3, 2019, officers of the Cobourg Police Service observed a motor vehicle parked at a north end business parking lot with the windows rolled down and keys in the ignition. A query into the licence plate attached to the motor vehicle revealed that the licence plates were not for the motor vehicle. After further investigation of the vehicle identification number (VIN) revealed that the motor vehicle was stolen; a cursory search of the area revealed no persons in the immediate area were associated to the motor vehicle; police continued to surveillance the area.
At around 3:00 pm, police observed a man get into the motor vehicle and police arrested him without further incident.
The accused man is identified as:
24-year-old, Dalton J.D. Hill-Doxtador of Oshweken, Ontario
The accused is charged with the following charges:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code;
- Drive While Under Suspension, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle, Drive Motor Vehicle No Validation on Plate, Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, all contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Fail to Surrender Insurance Card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The accused was released on a Form 9 Appearance Notice and Part III Summons to a Defendant with an August 2019 court date.
The recovered motor vehicle was towed and impounded in the police Impound for safe keeping.
