Operation “Smoke Free”

Through 1 April to 30 June 2015, members of the Cobourg Police Service will enforce the Smoke Free Ontario Legislation.  Police will conduct traffic stops with drivers of motor vehicles not adhering to the legislation by smoking tobacco products while children under 16 years of age are present in the motor vehicle.

Police will also enforce the new rules of the Smoke Free Ontario legislation which were released 1 January 2015, that it is illegal to smoke on and around children’s playgrounds, publicly owned sport fields and surfaces. 

A person operating a motor vehicle with a child under 16 years of age present may be charged with a minimum penalty of $155.00 contrary to Smoke Free Ontario Act, Section 9.2(1).
