Ontario Provincial Police Charge Brantford Man With Internet Luring Offences

(Cobourg, ON) - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit (Project "P") have arrested and charged a Brantford man following a seven week internet luring investigation.

In December 2014, the accused was on an internet chat site and communicated with a police officer acting in an undercover capacity. The accused chatted with the officer for the purposes of making arrangements to meet a child for sexual purposes.

On February 18, 2015 the accused travelled from Brantford to Cobourg to meet a young female for the purposes of having sex. When the accused arrived, he was subsequently arrested by police officers from the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, Port Hope Police Service and Cobourg Police Service.

On February 18, 2015 members the O.P.P. Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and the Brantford Police Service executed a search warrant at a Brantford residence. As a result of this investigation, two computer devices were seized and are pending forensic analysis.

William John SEMPIE, age 42 years, of Brantford Ontario is charged with one count of Use Telecommunications to Make Arrangement to Commit Sexual Interference, one count of Use Telecommunications to Make Arrangement to Commit Sexual Assault, one count of Breach of Prohibition Order and one count of Breach of Probation.

The accused was remanded into custody from a bail hearing yesterday. He is scheduled to appear on February 20, 2015, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, Ontario.

The investigation is continuing.
