Modified Motor Vehicles –
Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) – 1 to 31 August, 2018
The Cobourg Police Service is determined to make our community roadways as safe as possible, through education and enforcement. As part of that goal, we have enhanced our traffic patrols over the last few years with the implementation of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (S.T.E.P.). This focuses our efforts on a different topic monthly.
During the month of August 2018, officers of the Cobourg Police Service will be conducting traffic stops with motor vehicles that appear and are modified from manufacturer’s factory specifications. You will see officers concentrate their investigations on motor vehicle safety equipment systems (steering, suspension, tires, wheels, braking systems, headlights, running lights, brake lights, side mirrors, windshields, horns, exhaust systems, steering wheels, seatbelts, etc) and any modifications made to the motor vehicle.
Drivers who are operating a modified motor vehicle and investigated for violations, like those listed above, may be charged under various statues such as the Town of Cobourg Noise By-Law, the Highway Traffic Act, the Environmental Protection Act and the Criminal Code.
The Cobourg Police Service encourages the community to become involved with this monthly initiative and report motor vehicles that appear to be modified and / or unsafe.
