The Cobourg Police Service has charged a man after responding to a report of theft in a local business north end of town. On June 13, 2019 at approximately 1:00 pm, Cobourg police received a report of a man leaving the business with a large amount of unpaid merchandise. Police were also advised that upon being confronted by a Loss Prevention Officer, the man ran towards them with a bat and uttering threats.
As a result of the police investigation, 46 year old Michael Cole of Cobourg was charged with theft under $5000 contrary to section 334 (b) of the Criminal Code, Possession of Property obtained by Crime contrary to section 354 (1) of the Criminal Code, Assault with a Weapon contrary to section 267 (a) of the Criminal Code, and Uttering Threats to person contrary to section 264.1(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
