On September 28, 2016, shortly after 9 PM, Cobourg police and emergency services responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. This collision took place on Elgin Street East, just to the east of the intersection at Brook Road North in Cobourg.
As a result of this collision, a 19-year-old Cobourg man succumbed to his injuries a short time afterwards. The Cobourg Police Service will not be releasing his name, to respect the privacy of the family.
In cooperation with the OPP’s Technical Traffic Construction Investigation team and the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Cobourg Police Service continues to investigate the motor vehicle collision and is looking for any witnesses that may have observed or have information about the collision which may assist the investigators.
Information was made available through the investigation that a white SUV may have been in the area and possibly witnessed this event, or have information that may be of assistance.. Elgin Street East was closed to traffic in order to assist with the investigation, but is now reopened to traffic.
