Boxing Day Patrols result in Multiple Charges

Two vehicles racing through Cobourg at about 0445 on Boxing Day drew the attention of patrolling Police.

The vehicles got onto the 401 westbound at Division St. and one raced away in excess of the posted 100km/h speed limit. This driver then proceeded to turn off their headlights and continue racing away.

The driver refused to stop for Police, their speed being well over 150km/h and passing several more vehicles. The driver rapidly exited and then re-entered the 401 at the County Rd 28 exit at Port Hope.

The driver was blocked in by Police vehicles and the driver was arrested.

As a result, Andrew Da Rocha, a 24yr old Brampton man has been charged with Criminal Code driving, drug and stolen property charges along with the suspension of his licence and seizure of his vehicle for seven days for Racing/Stunt driving offences. He also faces multiple Highway Traffic Act charges.  He will appear in court in January.
