The
Cobourg Police Service assigns one full-time officer to
run the Youth Crimes department. This department works
closely with the three high schools in the area and other
social agencies that serve youth.
Officer Andrew Allen investigates all crimes that originate
with youth: bullying, drugs and local theft. The CPS
feels that assigning one officer to the responsibility
ensures efficiency as continuity and local knowledge
is essential to successful investigation and monitoring.
Liaising closely with the staff of the local High Schools
and parole officers and even sitting in some 'restorative
justice' sessions, Officer Allen knows that by keeping
in close touch with vulnerable youth and their teachers
and mentors he can keep as near as possible to youth
crimes, thus ensuring a quick resolution of problems.
Cobourg is well served by this process.
