Early on Friday, June 18 at 1:11 a.m., Cobourg Police were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Division Street.
When the first officer tried to stop a pickup truck, it continued slowly past the officer without stopping. Another officer saw what was happening and quickly moved his cruiser diagonally across both lanes forcing the truck to stop.
The driver displayed the usual signs of impairment and was arrested. He was returned to the police office where he blew over twice the legal limit.
David Allen Wannamaker, age 44 of Browns Road in Port Hope has been charged with failing to stop when directed by police, impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol.
Cobourg Police investigated a two-vehicle collision on Elgin Street West on Thursday, June 17 at 8:20 a.m.
Both vehicles were travelling west bound when the lead vehicle stopped due to traffic. The van following was unable to get stopped and crashed into the rear of the first vehicle.
The 71 year old Cobourg man driving the trailing vehicle has been charged with careless driving.
The driver of the first vehicle was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
Both vehicles required to be towed from the scene.
An Otto Drive resident has reported to Cobourg Police that someone stole his BBQ from his back patio.
The theft occurred overnight on Tuesday, June 15 or during the daytime on Wednesday. It was stainless steel with a side grill, propane tank and a grey nylon cover.
A two year old boy chased a ball onto Carlisle Street in front of his home and was struck by a passing car. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, June 16 just before 6:00 p.m.
The driver of the car had no warning about the child’s presence as there were several vehicles parked along the curb.
The child was taken to Northumberland Hill Health Centre by ambulance with unknown injuries.
On Tuesday, June 15, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Cobourg Police received information that a possible impaired driver was travelling on Division Street and then again in the Sydenham and Durham Street area.
Police located a pickup truck pulling into a driveway on Durham Street which fit the description given by a witness.
The driver had the odour of alcohol on his breath and his speech was slurred.
He was arrested and returned to the police office where he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.
The 55 year old Cobourg man has been charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.
