attempted break and enter

Sometime during the daytime on Friday, September 3, a Carroll Crescent resident reported to Cobourg police that someone attempted to enter her house.

Between 9:00 a.m., and 5:00 p.m., someone entered the backyard by breaking a gate. Once in the backyard, a pool ladder was used to tamper with two rear windows.

The screens were askew, however the glass windows were locked and no entry to the house was made.

Neighbours did tell police that a red SUV, possibly a GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet Blazer was seen in the area. It is not known if this vehicle was related to the attempted break and enter.

On Thursday afternoon, September 2, four female girls at the Cobourg waterfront were approached by a man in a vehicle who started a conversation and attempted to get the girls to approach his car.

He allegedly held up a cell phone and indicated that one of the girl’s parents was calling them.

The girls ignored the man at which time he drove away.

Police would like to speak to the man and find out what he wanted. He is described as being white, 40–50 years old with dark-brown curly-unkempt hair, and a black-bushy beard. He spoke with an eastern European accent.

His car is described as an 80’s or 90’s Volkswagen Jetta, beige in colour with lots of rust and dents. There were ‘Turbo’ stickers on the sides and bullet-hole decals on the driver’s door.

east end residential properties targetted

Several residential owners in the Cooper Court and East House Crescent areas of Cobourg have reported mischief and trespassing incidents over the past week.

In the four cases reported to Cobourg police, the mischief and vandalism is occurring overnight. It involved the theft of furniture, bird feeders, lawn ornaments and solar lights.

Also the culprit(s) are moving outdoor furniture and other items around the yard. This included solar lights being thrown into a pond and a flag being removed from its pole and placed over a car.

hockey parent assaults coach

Cobourg Police were called to the Cobourg Arena on Wednesday night, September 1 at 8:00 p.m., in regard to a reported assault.

The investigation revealed that the father of a young hockey player had assaulted his sons coach after his son had been cut from the team.

The Cobourg Minor Hockey team coach had three goalies trying for two positions and he was telling the mother of the player to be cut what was happening. The player’s father was apparently nearby and overheard the conversation.

The father, now the accused, picked up a hockey helmet and hit the coach on the side of the head with the helmet.

The accuseds wife and other parents managed to get the accused out of the room and eventually out of the arena. During his exit, the accused was swinging a hockey stick and yelling at the coach and threats were made.

Police arrested Richard Dean Brown, age 43, of Daintry Crescent in Cobourg and he has been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Brown has been held for a bail hearing.

The coach had a small bump come up on the side of his head but did not require medical attention.

three-vehicle collision

Cobourg police investigated a three-vehicle; rear-end collision on Division Street just north of University Avenue.

The crash occurred at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 31.

All three vehicles were northbound on William Street following each other, when the first two vehicles slowed as traffic ahead was stopping. The trailing vehicle did not stop and crashed into the rear of the middle vehicle sending it into the rear of the lead vehicle.

There were no injuries but the first two vehicles required tows from the scene.

The last vehicle, driven by a 28 year old Newtonville man, was driven from the scene. He was also charged with careless driving.
