Sometime between 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 17 and Sunday morning, two businesses at 884 Division Street were entered.
In both cases the front doors were the entry points. Both business owners report to police that some ransacking occurred and small amounts of cash were taken
In the early hours of Sunday, July 18 at approximately 4:10 a.m., Cobourg Police on patrol spotted a man walking in the Victoria Park Trailer park carrying a large red cooler. When the man saw police, he ran through the trailer park towards the beach.
He was again spotted by police in the vicinity of the children’s play area without the cooler. He continued to run away from police but was quickly apprehended by officers in the park. A 25 year old Baltimore area man has been charged with theft and possession of stolen property under $5,000.00
The cooler was subsequently located and returned to the owners.
Cobourg Police have received three calls about vehicle entries and thefts which have occurred over the past weekend.
The first report involved the theft of Sirius Satellite Radio from a vehicle parked on Sutherland Crescent. It occurred late Thursday night, July 15 or early Friday morning. The owner told police the car was locked however the window may have been open somewhat. The radio system is worth $200.00.
The second occurred sometime Saturday afternoon involving a car parked at Weetabix. The owner was working and at 2:00 p.m., she discovered her vehicle has been enter and her purse stolen. The purse was found a short time later with everything in tact except the cash was missing.
The final report involved the theft of both licence plates from a vehicle which had been parked at the VIA Rail station from last Thursday, July 15 until Sunday, July 18. The stolen plates were BEED742.
A man driving a grey-coloured van was observed by a witness digging up three shrubs from the scent garden at Victoria Park. According to the witness, the man put the shrubs in his van and drove off.
This incident occurred on Friday evening, July 16 at around 9:00 p.m.
The suspect is described as non-white. The witness did take a picture of the van using his cell phone.
Efforts are currently underway to enhance the photo and hopefully identify the vehicle and suspect.
On Friday afternoon, July 16 at 4:30 p.m., Cobourg Police spotted a vehicle travelling on Elgin Street with an apparent expired validation sticker.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped near Division Street and the police investigation resulted in not only the expired sticker, but also that the lone male driving the vehicle was driving while suspended from doing so.
The accused, a 25 year old Cobourg man, was arrested and his vehicle was seized.
He faces charges of driving while under suspension, no current validation permit and failing to notify the Ministry of a change of address.
It appears that this is the accused third driving suspension in the past two years.
