The
Ontario Police Services Act requires that all municipal
police forces are governed by a provincially- and municipally-appointed
civilian body. This body (Police Services Board) is responsible
for the provision of adequate and effective police services
through the creation of management policies and through
the appointment of Members. However, the Board can't direct
the Chief in operational decisions or in the day-to-day
operation of the Service.
