Cobourg Police are investigating two reports of vehicles being entered overnight on Sunday, September 27 or early Monday morning. It is believed that both vehicles were parked and left unlocked by the owners.
The first incident involved a vehicle parked on King Street East and the owners DELL laptop computer was taken.
The second report involved a vehicle parked on Ashland Drive. The vehicle was entered and the culprit(s) stole a quantity of CDs and change. The garage-door opener in the vehicle was used to open the garage door which allowed the thief to steal a bike and helmet.
The bicycle is described as a female model, make is Schwin.
Cobourg Police are investigating a break, enter and theft at Legacy Vintage Building Materials on Division Street. The incident happened sometime between Sunday evening, September 20 and Wednesday morning, September 23.
The investigation revealed that the suspect(s) entered the building by an unknown way as the doors were all locked and not damaged. It is possible that someone may have stayed inside the business at closing time.
Items stolen include two miniature- white ceramic- bath tubs approximately eight inches long and an 1892 Royal Enfield flint-lock rifle which is rendered inoperable.
The value of the stolen items is approximately $1,400.00.
A number of items have been seized by police for finger printing.
On Tuesday night, September 22 at 10:45 p.m., Cobourg Police were called to Mac’s Milk store on King Street West.
A staff member advised police that they had observed a male suspect enter the store and loiter around for while before stuffing three muffins inside his shirt.
Staff asked the suspect to put the muffins back on the shelf at which time he fled the store without paying for the items. He was last seen running westbound on King Street.
The suspect is described as being a white male, 6’ tall, skinny build and in his 20’s. He has short red hair. At the time he was wearing black jeans and a grey shirt (stuffed with muffins).
The investigation is continuing as security video will be looked at.
On Monday, September 21 at 8:30 p.m., a man walked into Staples Business Depot to do some shopping. He was asked twice by staff if he required any assistance to which he replied no.
Soon afterwards, staff observed the man exit the store by way of a rear door and get into a newer red Dodge Caravan. He was carrying store items.
Staff quickly determined that at least three computer monitors, two were Dell products, were missing.
The suspect is described as a white male, 6’ tall, thin build, dark hair with a goatee and thin moustache. He was wearing a blue T-shirt, tan-cotton pants, black-baseball cap with a white logo on the peak and dark-running shoes.
With the assistance of the public, Cobourg Police were able to arrest and charge three people with breaking into a Cobourg home.
On Monday, September 21 at 1:38 p.m., police received a call from a neighbour reporting a nearby home being broken into. Upon the arrival of police, the culprits fled the immediate area but were soon rounded up by police.
The investigation reveals that three Cobourg residents, two men and one woman, between 19 and 22 years of age, had broken into the residence to steal drugs. They have all been charged with break, enter and theft and possession of stolen property.
When police returned to the subject house, more drugs were found and the actual occupants of the house, two 39 year old men, were arrested and charged with possession of the drugs.
Everyone was released from custody to appear in court at a later date.
This coming Thursday, September 24 the annual police memorial run from the GTA to Ottawa arrives in Cobourg for the night. As many as a hundred runners will arrive in Cobourg around 6:30 p.m., and attend at the Chris Garrett Park for a short service.
Pipes and drums will announce their arrival followed by a couple of speeches and a presentation to Cobourg Police Chief Paul Sweet. The public is welcome to attend.
The runners will continue running the following morning and will arrive in Ottawa two days later, in time for the annual national police memorial ceremony on Parliament Hill on Sunday, September 27.
Two Brampton men, aged 21 and 25 years, are in police custody following an incident on Saturday night, September 19 at 9:30 p.m. at a John Street apartment.
The investigation revealed that the two accused men entered the apartment apparently looking for an individual whom they stated had stolen a quantity of money earlier from a friend. Although the thief was not present, the accused men began assaulting the four young occupants in the apartment.
The accused men kept demanding money and refused to leave. It then escalated into punching and assaults with articles of furniture.
One of the occupants managed to call police who arrived on scene and arrested the two men.
Police have charged the accused men with unlawfully being in a dwelling, assault and assault causing bodily harm, mischief, obstruct police and failing to comply with a probation order.
The occupants of the apartment suffered numerous injuries including a broken nose, a sore wrist, and a large welt on the side of one victim’s head.
The two accused men were also under the influence of alcohol. They have been held for bail hearings.
Sometime overnight on Friday, September 18 or early Saturday morning, a car parked in a residence on Westwood Drive, was entered and items stolen.
The unlocked vehicle did not sustain any damage however numerous items were taken.
The list of stolen articles include a small-wrist purse, brown in colour and containing a key and coins, a black backpack with white stitching and bearing the name IMPACT, a tan-coloured Mastercraft tool belt containing a Stanley hammer and a bright-orange measuring tape and an Old Navy long-sleeve T-shirt.
A routine traffic stop on University Avenue on Saturday afternoon, September 12 around 4:00 p.m., resulted in three young males in the car being arrested.
Cobourg Police determined that two Grafton teens were in breach of court conditions not to associate with each other. The 16 and 17 year old were both arrested and charged.
As a result of a search of the car, police found a zip-lock bag containing suspected marijuana bud in the rear seat area. A fifteen year old Cobourg male has been charged with possession of the marijuana.
On Thursday, September 10 at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Port Hope and Cobourg Police Services executed a search warrant at a Cobourg residence. As a result of the search warrant and a subsequent vehicle stop, four adult males have been arrested.
The drug-related investigation has resulted in 23 criminal charges being laid. Police seized one ounce of crack cocaine, one ounce of powder cocaine and 60 Oxycontin pills.
The accused are a 25 year old Port Hope man, a 22 year old Cobourg man and two men from Roseneath, ages 20 and 27 years.
Charges laid include multiple counts of possession of drugs from the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime.
Also, all four accused men, are on probation orders and this has resulted in ten charges of failing to comply with these orders.
Cobourg Police are investigating the theft of two backpacks which were stolen from the pier around 3:30 p.m., on Thursday afternoon, September 10.
Two male teens from Cobourg, ages 14 and 15 years, were on the pier Thursday afternoon when they decided to jump into the lake for a swim.
Their backpacks were left on the pier and while they were in the water, a small black car, with several teenage occupants, drove up to where the backpacks were and stole them.
No further details of the car or its occupants are known.
One backpack bears the logo ‘Roots’ and the other ‘Element’. Both packs contained IPods. Other items in the stolen backpacks include school books, a cell phone, clothing and a wallet containing a bank card and other personal cards.
A two-vehicle collision was investigated by Cobourg Police on Wednesday, September 9 at around 8:00 p.m., at the intersection of D’Arcy and Spencer Street East.
Both vehicles were northbound on D’Arcy Street when the lead car stopped to allow a vehicle in front of him to turn left onto Spencer Street. A trailing van, the third vehicle in the row, was unable to stop in time to avoid running into the rear of the car ahead of him.
The driver of the van, a 40 year old Cobourg man, has been charged with following too closely.
The crash resulted in minor damage to both vehicles allowing them to be driven from the scene.
Cobourg Police are investigating the theft of a 2008 Cadillac, deep purple in colour from the lot at Thomas Motors.
On Tuesday, September 8 around 11:00 a.m., a salesperson had shown the car to an interested party. The potential customer got behind the wheel and started the car to check the number of kilometers on the odometer.
The man ended up telling the salesperson that he really wanted a vehicle like this only he wanted a white one. The salesperson asked for his name and telephone number with the intention of checking other dealerships for a white Cadillac. The man refused to give any personal details.
Approximately one and one half hours later, staff at the dealership realized the car was missing and presumed stolen. The only key for the car was still in the possession of staff.
The original customer is a suspect in this case. He is described as being 5’8” tall, 50-60 years old, tanned and he spoke with a European accent. He was well dressed.
A sixteen year Cobourg male, who has been living at a Cobourg foster home, has been arrested and charged with uttering threats.
The incident occurred at the residence on Saturday evening, September 5 around 10:45 p.m. The teen became upset during a family discussion and produced a pocket knife.
According to family members, the accused walked throughout the house with the knife in his hand and threatening family members.
After his arrest and police processing, he was released to his foster mother.
On Saturday evening, September 5 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Cobourg Police were called to a University Avenue residence in response to a disturbance.
Police were told by the complainant that her common-law husband had become agitated and verbally abusive towards her. He had left the residence prior to police arriving.
The investigation revealed that the 33 year old man had thrown an object through the kitchen window and smashed their computer screen before leaving through the back yard.
About an hour later, the man returned to the residence and police were notified. He was arrested in his backyard and charged with mischief.
Back at the police office he was searched and police found a small amount of suspected marijuana on him. He had been charged with that also.
Cobourg Police investigated at two-car collision at the intersection of Division Street and Albert Street. The crash occurred at 7:05 p.m., Wednesday, September 2.
The 19 year old female driver of a southbound car on Division Street failed to stop for a red light and struck an eastbound car passing through the intersection.
The offending driver has been charged with failing to stop for a red light. Her car was able to driven from the scene.
The car that was struck required a tow. There were no injuries.
On Monday, August 31 at approximately 5:12 p.m., two young males were in the local LCBO outlet and were being watched by staff. One male was observed placing a bottle of Polar Ice vodka inside the waist band of his shorts.
His friend selected a bottle of beer. Both attended the cashier and the one lad paid for the beer. When questioned about the vodka bottle, the suspect stated that he had ‘put it back’.
It was subsequently discovered by staff that the vodka bottle had in fact been stolen and police were called.
Based on a detail description of the suspect given to police, he was located about three hours later on Division Street. He was with his previous friend and a female was also present.
The female was holding a bottle of vodka matching the one stolen from the liquor store. She told police she did not realize it had been stolen.
A 17 year old Cobourg teen has been charged with theft, possession of stolen property and three counts of wilful non compliance as he was on probation.
Sometime over the past weekend, a tonneau cover was stolen from a pickup truck parked on the lot of Young’s Convenience store in the east end of Cobourg.
The cover is black in colour and was covering the box of a Ford pickup truck when stolen. It is valued at $1,500.00.
