Cobourg Police investigated a two-car collision on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m. The collision occurred at the intersection of King Street West and Spring Street when a southbound car on Spring Street was turning right onto King Street.
The road had turned to black ice and the car slid into an eastbound vehicle stopped for the red light.
Both vehicles were subsequently driven away by their owners and there were no injuries.
Cobourg Police investigated a two-vehicle collision on Friday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m. The crash occurred on Elgin Street West at the entrance to the Canadian Tire Gas Bar.
A pickup truck was exiting the gas bar and attempting to turn left unto Elgin Street when the driver failed to see an eastbound car on Elgin Street. The two vehicles collided and the pickup truck driver, a 49 year old Etobicoke resident has been charged with Failing to Yield to Traffic on a Through Roadway.
The truck required a tow from the scene, but the car did not. There were no injuries.
On Friday February 22, 2008, the Cobourg Police Service, with the assistance of members of the Toronto Police Service, executed Criminal Code Search Warrants at three Cobourg addresses.
At locations on University Ave East, Alexandria Drive and Hawthorne Ave. several stolen large screen televisions were recovered.
These televisions were a few of many which had been stolen from tractor-trailer units in the Toronto area.

All the accused released on Promises To Appear, will appear in Cobourg Court on Monday, March 31 at 9:30 a.m.
A 39 year old Cobourg woman has been charged with Making an Unsafe Turn as the result of a collision on Wednesday, February 20 at 3:20 p.m.
The accident occurred when the accused attempted to turn left from Rayner Road to proceed southbound on Burnham Street. A northbound vehicle on Burnham Street was unable to avoid striking the turning car.
Both vehicles required tows from the scene and there were no injuries.
Cobourg Police continue to receive calls from residents reporting their vehicles being entered during the night. Three more complaints were received by police between Wednesday, February 20 and Friday, February 22.
Two cars were entered and a small quantity of money and some cassettes stolen. Both vehicles were unlocked.
A third vehicle, which was locked, received a broken door handle and scratches. The culprit did not gain entry.
Cobourg Police are investigating two incidents of break, enter and theft and one of an attempt to steal a vehicle associated to a third business.
The first report was from Clear Choice Pools and Spa on Division Street. Some time between 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18 and 7:30 a.m. the next morning, the knob on a side door was smashed off allowing the thief/thieves to enter. Once inside the business office was ransacked and items were stolen. They include a Denon stereo receiver, a CD player, a Canon Digital camera and a small amount of loose change. The total value of the stolen items was approximately $1,500.00 877
Within the same time frame, police are also investigating a break, enter and theft at Herbal Magic in the Midtown Mall. On Tuesday morning, February 19, staff arrived to find the front glass had been tampered with and the locking device had been removed allowing entry. Filing cabinets and cupboards had been searched through and the owner reports that $122.00 in cash was stolen. 879 Also at the Midtown Mall, a van belonging to Easy Home, was broken into. The vehicle, at 2005 Ford Cube Van, was parked behind the business. The door lock had been punched and the cab entered. The culprit(s) were unable to start the van but damaged the ignition in the process. Nothing was taken from inside the van. 881
Police believe that the incidents are likely related.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., on Sunday night, February 17, a van was stolen from the Nucomm Marketing Inc., parking lot on D’Arcy Street. The vehicle was actually observed being driven from the lot by a co-worker of the owner, who thought the owner was probably operating the van.
Later in the morning hours, the owner was leaving work and discovered the van missing. Upon returning to the workplace, the owner was told by the witness of the seeing her departing vehicle earlier.
The stolen vehicle is a 1992 Plymouth van, red, with licence AMYY037. The vehicle had been left unlocked and had less that a half tank of gasoline.
Cobourg Police are investigating the break, enter and theft of items from an apartment on King Street West. The owner/occupant of the apartment had been working out of town for the past two weeks and upon his arrival back home on Friday, February 15 around 9:00 p.m., he was greeted with the discovery that his apartment door was slightly open and many items had been stolen from the apartment.
Stolen items include a 42” RCA LCD TV, a Play Station and 11 games and a 15” LCD flat screen TV with DVD player. Total value of the stolen items is approximately $2,000.00.
Police have checked with neighbouring apartment dwellers, however no one heard or saw anything suspicious. The investigation is continuing.
On Friday, February 15 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Cobourg Police arrested a 16 year Cobourg male on Elgin Street near Clarke Court. The teen had been followed by security staff from Zeller’s after being observed stealing a DVD from the store. He was in the company of three other male teens who were also arrested on Elgin Street but subsequently released with warnings.
The stolen DVD SAW IV was located in the accused’s backpack. He will appear at a later date in Youth Court in Cobourg.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., on Thursday, February 14, a Cobourg Police officer stopped a vehicle on Elgin Street West and immediately smelled burning marijuana from within the vehicle.
Subsequent investigation by police resulted in two men being arrested for Possession of Marijuana. A quantity of marijuana was found in the vehicle and in the coat pocket of one of the men. Police also seized a home-made pipe and some rolling papers.
Charged are a 19 year old Port Hope man and a 23 year old Bewdley man. They were released on an Appearance Notice to attend Cobourg Court on Monday, March 17 at 9:30 a.m.
Cobourg Police are investigating the theft of two snowmobiles from a trailer parked in the loading dock area at the Canadian Tire store.
Sometime overnight on Monday, February 11 and Tuesday morning, February 12, two locks were cut off a snowmobile trailer parked along the east side of the store. The trailer was secured by a parked vehicle and could not be stolen, however once the two locks were cut off, the two sleds were driven off the trailer.
One sled was located in the field just west of the store, with the keys still in the ignition.
The second sled was driven towards Carlisle Street and tracks in the snow show that it was loaded onto a pickup truck. It is still outstanding. The missing sled is a 2003 Polaris Classic 600cc snowmobile, grey-silver-black in colour and valued at approximately $5,000.00.
Police have canvassed the neighborhood, but so far no witnesses have been found.
Cobourg Police investigated a two vehicle collision on Tuesday, February 12 at 9:40 a.m. at the corner of Elgin Street West and Courthouse Road.
A car which had been southbound on Courthouse Road attempted to turn left onto Elgin Street when it was struck by a westbound van on Elgin Street. The driver of the car, an 81 year old Cobourg man, has been charged with Making An Unsafe Turn.
Both vehicles were driven from the scene and there were no injuries.
A daytime break, enter and theft at a Cobourg residence is being investigated by Cobourg Police. The home is located on Elgin Street West and was broken into sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2008.
The owner returned home and discovered that his 42” Plasma TV had been stolen along with $140.00 in cash.
An employee at the Home Depot, reported to Cobourg Police on Sunday, February 10 at 3:30 p.m., he discovered his vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot while he was working.
Sometime between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., somebody stole his 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck. The truck is black in colour with a silver stripe and has the number 3 on the rear window behind the driver’s seat.
The truck also has a black plastic tool box behind the cab that extends the width of the box.
