On Wednesday, June 30 at approximately 1:15 p.m., Cobourg Police were called to No Frills on Division Street concerning the report of store staff holding an alleged shoplifter in custody.
Police arrived and the investigation revealed that store staff had observed the suspect place a shrimp ring and a package of steak in her purse and exit the store without attempting to pay for the items.
The woman, aged 41 from Mississauga, also gave police incorrect personal information. She was returned to the police office where she was correctly identified by way of her tattoos.
The accused has been charged with theft under $5,000.00 and obstructing police.
Cobourg Police investigated a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Albert and Bagot Streets on Wednesday, June 30 at 12:38 p.m.
A vehicle travelling eastbound on Albert Street had stopped for the stop sign and was proceeding through the intersection when a car northbound on Bagot Street did a rolling stop only and crashed into the vehicle which was legally passing through the intersection.
The driver of the vehicle performing the rolling stop has been charged with failing to yield and failing to produce a driver’s license. The driver, a 19 year old Cobourg female required a tow truck.
On Wednesday, June 30 at 11:10 a.m., the driver of a tractor trailer parked his rig on Division Street between the entrance and exit in to the Tim Horton’s restaurant.
As a result of blocking the view with the truck, an exiting car pulled out onto Division Street and was struck by a northbound car.
There were no injuries and all vehicles involved were able to be driven from the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer has been charged with parking and interfering with traffic. The driver of the car pulling onto Division Street has been charged with failing to yield.
