Two vehicles collided on Division Street in front of Wimpy’s Diner on Thursday afternoon, July 8, at 3:40 p.m.
One vehicle was travelling northbound on Division Street and attempted to turn left into the restaurant’s parking lot but was struck by a southbound vehicle. The driver and a passenger in the vehicle turning were taken to hospital by ambulance. Their injuries are unknown. The driver, a 49 year old female from New Jersey, was also charged with making an unsafe turn.
Store security staff at Zellers arrested a woman on Thursday, July 8 at 3:00 p.m., after watching her put several items in her purse and pocket and leave the store without paying for them.
Police continued the investigation and charged the 64 year old Port Hope woman with theft under $5,000.00 and possession of stolen property.
The stolen property amounted to a chocolate bar and two Air-Wick refills. The total value of the items was $10.58.
On Wednesday evening, July 7 around 7:30 p.m., a van was stopped in the turn- around area of the parking lot immediately west of the band shell in Victoria Park.
Four males were standing outside the van. As a 16 year old girl passed by them, one of the males tried to engage her in a conversation to which the victim continued to walk past them.
The male then grabbed her shoulder and ended up pushing her causing the victim to strike her head and the left side of her body on the rear corner of the van.
The girl then walked away quickly into an area where more people were around.
Police were called and collected the following information. The van is described as being a full-sized panel van, dark grey with a window in the passenger side sliding door. The van also displayed a yellow rear licence plate, possibly a dealer plate.
The male suspect is described as being in his twenties, 6’ tall with broad shoulders and a muscular build. He has short brown hair and a dark tan. The other three males present had a similar description.
After the assault, the van sped off squealing its tires in the process. The victim did not suffer any injuries as a result of the assault and no attempt was made to coerce or force her into the van.
