Cobourg Police are investigating the theft of some tools and equipment from a truck parked at Chadwick Motors on County Road 2 west of Cobourg.
Sometime between 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 6 and 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning, the rear of a truck parked in the lot was entered.
Thieves stole some wrenches, torch heads and torch regulators. The value of items is unknown.
Approximately 100 feet of welding cable had been removed from the truck but was found lying close by. The culprits may have left the cable after being scared off by an employee who arrived at the location.
Early Friday morning, August 6 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Cobourg Police were called to an Elgin Street East residence in response to an assault complaint.
Police arrived and arrested a 33 year old Cobourg woman who was at the residence refusing to leave. She was with family members and an argument turned physical when the accused punched her brother in the face several times.
She was subsequently taken into custody by police and in the processes of arresting her she pushed one of the police officers causing the officer to fall backwards.
The accused was finally handcuffed and taken to the police office where she will be held for a bail hearing.
She was charged with failing to leave a premise when directed, assault and assault police with intent to resist arrest.
Around 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 4, Cobourg Police observed a motorcycle travelling southbound on Division Street near the No Frills store.
The sound of the motorcycle revving its engine first drew the officer’s attention to the vehicle and then the officer observed the driver cause the front wheel to lift from the road surface. The wheel actually came off the road approximately eight to ten inches for about two and one half seconds.
The unsafe action of the driver resulted in police stopping the motorcycle and charging the 30 year old Cobourg man with stunt driving by lifting the tire from the surface of the highway.
Police seized the accused driver’s licence and motorcycle for the mandatory seven day period.
With all the warm weather and record number of people attending at the waterfront, Cobourg Police have been busy keeping young people off the pier leading to the lighthouse.
Although posted for no vehicular traffic, pedestrians continue to walk out on the rough pier towards the lighthouse. Some are even climbing partway up the lighthouse itself and jumping into the water.
On Tuesday, August 3 around noon, police assisted a 15 year old Cobourg boy who had slipped on the rocks while walking towards the lighthouse. He fell into the rocks and suffered cuts to his legs and sprained his left ankle. He was subsequently taken to hospital by his parent for medical attention.
On Tuesday, August 3 at approximately 12:45 p.m., an 18 and 19 year old Cobourg males were arrested at Wal-Mart.
Store security had observed the accused teens conceal a number of items including footwear, a grinder and a video game. They exited the store without offering to pay for the items and were arrested by security staff. Police were called and continued the arrest. The stolen items amounted to $94.00 and were recovered.
Police have charged both males with theft and possession of stolen property under $5,000.00. One male is also charged with three counts of breach of probation.
The second male is also charged with two counts of breach of a court undertaking and possession of marijuana. The drug was found on his person when he was searched after being arrested.
