man charged with domestic assault

A 23 year old Cobourg man has been charged with mischief and two counts of domestic assault resulting from several recent incidents where he is alleged to have assaulted his girl friend and mother.

The incidents occurred on July 29 and August 10.

Also on August 10, the accused was charged with mischief when he smashed the window of vehicle being operated by girl friend. She was trying to leave the residence as she feared for her safety.

An artist, who had attended the recent Waterfront Festival in Cobourg, has reported to police that she now realizes that 12 water-colour paintings were stolen from a display portfolio.

The stolen paintings are all 8” X 10” and worth $125.00 each. The theft would have occurred between July 1 and 4 in the Lion’s Artist tent.

Cobourg Police are investigating the theft of material from an apartment on William Street. Two roles of carpet were stolen as well as two plastic tool boxes containing plumbing tools, wrenches and a rechargeable drill.

The theft occurred between August 7 and 9 as the apartment was being renovated.

The theft is still under investigation by police.

vehicle keyed, significant damage

Sometime overnight on Sunday, August 8 or early Monday morning, a vehicle parked at a Sutherland Crescent residence was keyed.

The vehicle had been parked in the driveway.

The culprit had walked entirely around the vehicle twice making two significant wavy cuts into the metal body of the vehicle.

The estimate from a body shop to repair the damage is in excessive of $4,200.00.

Police canvassed the neighbourhood in an attempt to located witnesses with negative results.

truck hits hydro pole and leaves

Cobourg Police investigated a fail to remain collision on Friday, August 6 which occurred at 3:00 p.m.

A tractor hauling a large float trailer was northbound on Ontario Street and turned right onto Albert Street. In the process of turning, the tractor trailer struck a hydro pole on the southeast corner causing it to snap.

A witness in the area called police as the tractor trailer left the scene. Police were given information about the vehicle and subsequently contacted the operator.

The driver, a 23 year old man from Warkworth has been charged with making an improper right turn, failing to report an accident and failing to report damage to property on a highway.
