The
Cobourg Police Service has both a rich
heritage in serving the town and policing from one
of the most historic buildings in Cobourg. Using
the best of the past and working in the present
and having its path in the future the CPS delivers
quality policing to the citizens of Cobourg.
Noted as the best
rated Police Service in Ontario in two out of the three
crime tracking categories collected by Statistics Canada
in 2002, the CPS is justifiably proud of the men and
women who serve!

Medal - Changes to the Two-Year Limit
On December 7th, 2007, MP Rick Norlock held a
Press Conference at our station advising that the Prime
Minister was changing the two year rule on the Cross
of Valour application. The rule will state that applications
must be submitted two years after any court case
or investigation is completed.
With this new rule put in place, this
allows for Cst. Chris Garrett's nomination to now be
reviewed by the Honours Committee.
Even though we have crossed a major hurdle
towards getting Cst. Chris Garrett the Cross of Valour,
there is still a ways to go.
All of your continued support towards
this cause is much appreciated and also thanks to our
Prime Minister for acting quickly once everything got
to him.
All articles involving the push for Constable
Garrett's nomination are on the 221 Tribute section

Cobourg Police are busy taking continued reports of unlocked vehicles being entered, ransacked and items stolen.
Over the past two nights, over a dozen reports have been made to police. Both ends of town have fallen victim to the thefts and in many cases, young offenders have been seen rummaging through vehicles and fleeing the area.
Reports of thefts have occurred on Hamilton Avenue, Bayview Court, D’Arcy Street, White Street, Spragge Crescent, Barbara Street and Sandmere Crescent.
Police only have a partial list of stolen items which include satellite radio systems, garbage tags, sunglasses, cameras, hockey sticks, radios, cell phones and money.
police busy with impaired drivers and licence suspensions
Over the past weekend, Cobourg Police arrested two people for impaired driving and an additional two received 12-hour suspensions for alcohol consumption.
The first incident involved a car traveling southbound on William Street, which police observed being operated in an erratic manner. This occurred at 2:24 a.m., on Saturday, July 12. Upon stopping the car, the driver was agitated, sarcastic and uncooperative. He had the odour of alcohol on his breath.
After failing a road-side breath test, he was arrested and returned to the police office where an intoxylizer test produced readings over twice the legal limit. The 24 year old Grafton man has been charged with Impaired Driving and Driving a Motor Vehicle in Contravention of G2 Licensing Conditions.
Less that an hour later, police stopped a vehicle on Elgin Street East and when the 19 year old male driver from Roseneath blew a ‘warn’ on the road-side breath test, he was given a 12-hour licence suspension. His car was towed to a garage.
Later on Saturday evening at approximately 8:45 p.m., Cobourg Police on patrol on Elgin Street West near Burnham Street, observed a car traveling westbound and weaving back and forth.
The vehicle was stopped and a 33 year old Port Hope man was found to be intoxicated and he was arrested for impaired driving. Back at the police office he blew almost three times the legal limit.
The final drinking and driving occurrence involved a 19 year old man from Oshawa striking a tree with his car on Monk Street. He showed signs of alcohol consumption and blew a ‘warn’ on the road-side breath test.
He has been charged with Careless Driving and he also received a 12-hour licence suspension.
