The
CPVs
are "dedicated to making a difference in our community"
through a proactive partnership with the Cobourg Police
Service involving a variety of highly visible, non-confrontational
activities in areas of safety, security, and the support
service, in order to preserve and enhance the quality
of life in Cobourg and Hamilton Township.
The Cobourg Police Service is very proud of our Volunteer
contingent. Forty Cobourg citizens volunteer their time
to assist the Service in a variety of capacities including
child fingerprinting, radar speed awareness, railway
safety & special event security. Students of Sir
Sandford Fleming Police Foundation program also volunteer
at as part of their credit requirements.
Volunteers are expected to offer 12 hours a month and
it usually takes four training sessions to adapt to,
and understand the operating procedures. Serving the
public at the reception desk or helping the public at
the "Trailer in the Park" assisting the Cobourg
Police Services is a rewarding experience.
For more information on volunteering, please contact
the Volunteer Coordinator at (905) 372-6821.
The Cobourg
Police Volunteers were awarded the 2003 Civic Award
by the Town of Cobourg
Volunteer
Equipment
The
'Volunteer Van'
Used to transport volunteers and equipment from
duty to duty, this van is indispensable and essential
to the efficiency of the group. It is leased by
the Cobourg Police Service as part of its annual
operating budget.
The
'Trailer'
This piece of equipment is a mobile command post,
a tourist kiosk and a first aid station and a vital
piece of equipment for the group. Stationed at the
Victoria Beach trailer park in a most conspicuous
position it is often the first place visitors and
citizens go for assistance.
Radios
The CPVs have a number of radio sets that have been
provided by and form part of, the communications
network of the CPS. These dedicated units are the
property of the CPS.
