What are the benefits of municipal policing?

Municipal policing is truly community policing at its best. It is a partnership between the community and the police. Since the early 1800's our number one priority is to ensure that the citizens of Cobourg and all visitors to our community are well protected and confident in the level of safety and security.

A local police service develops a long term relationship with the residents of the community. Members of the Cobourg Police Association, both uniform and civilian have made a commitment to this community. Many members have a stake in Cobourg as many of our member's were born in this community and have chosen to remain in Cobourg to raise their families. These members also have strong ties to the local businesses. Our vast knowledge, understanding and familiarity with this community and its citizens result in quick response time and problem resolution.

Our Police Officers respond to all calls, no matter the priority level, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the police department conveniently situated in the downtown core. Our local dispatchers provide an enhanced 911 service, fire dispatch, after-hours public works dispatch and water pollution control alarm monitoring. Court services provide prisoner transportation along with the security and safety of all patrons in the County and Provincial court rooms. In addition, we have a unique volunteer program that provides office support, beach patrol and special event assistance to the residents of Cobourg.
