The Criminal Investigation Bureau is a fully accredited
office within the CPS and is an integral part of the
overall efficiency of the department. Manned by a highly
trained investigator and Detective, Staff Sergeant David
Cromlish follows up on the initial investigations of
the local officers investigating all major crimes (sexual
assaults, frauds and local violent incidents). Reporting
directly to the Chief the detective conducts investigations
as the office meets the mandated Adequacy Standards.
With a crime clearance rate that exceeds the national
average this small, but very effective, office works
very well. The office also delivers and coordinates
a public education programme. Seminars about phone scams,
bank frauds and other crimes directed towards seniors
are part of the curriculum. Drugs in schools and 'Elderabuse
Awareness' workshops are delivered on a regular basis.
To arrange for one or to discuss the possibility of

Criminal Investigation
Bureau Successes
Drug
Seizures The picture shows the result of an intensive
local investigation; a large marijuana seizure. Located
in the northern part of the service area (Northern Hamilton
Township) this plot was well protected by a barbed
wire
fence and hidden in a Cedar Woods on a large rural lot.
Regular drug seizures are part of the office's activities.
One recent 'bust' yielded 11lbs of marijuana and $21,000
hidden behind a wall, this 'bust' also uncovered many
local links to dealers, and the 'collar' exposed the
'local suits' in the drug chain.
When asked about the local success that he was most
proud of, Detective Cromlish speaks about the four month
long investigation into a vicious sexual assault on
a very elderly local woman. This crime that shocked
the community was solved as a result of a combination
of following the many local leads, phoned in by concerned
citizens and the tenacious tracking of clues. Surveillance
duty and DNA evidence showed that there was a case to
be made against a local suspect. The man was subsequently
found guilty and now is behind bars with an eight year
sentence.
